Your lesson

Fine Motor: Clothespin Letter Match

You will need:

  • •Clothes Pins
  • • Marker
  • • Paper Plate (yellow)

The Activity:

Clothes pins are a great tool to use when learning letters. In this activity, your child will learn how to properly grasp a clothespin and improve letter recognition by matching uppercase letters with lowercase letters to create rays of the sun.

Goals:

Clothes pins are on the list for OT favorite tools. This tool is great for strengthening the little fingers and improving bilateral coordination. Clothes can be used in many different ways however; one must position their fingers correctly to work on specific muscles of the fingers.

Are you ready to learn?

What you need to do:

Step 1: Gather all materials
Step 2: Prepare activity in advance. Use a yellow paper plate or paint a paper plate yellow. Write uppercase letters on the outer edges of the paper plate. Write lowercase letters on the edge of clothespins where the lip opens.
Step 3: Have your child match lower case letters with uppercase letters. Practice their sounds as a bonus.
Step 4: Add a sticker or checkmark to their reward chart once the activity is completed
