Your lesson

Fine Motor: Lacing Kitten Whiskers

You will need:

The Activity:

Lacing is an important foundational skill to learn when working on hand dexterity as well as visual motor planning. Learning to go on top and under to lace can be challenging for children. We start by cueing them where the lace goes and slowly let them get the hang of it.

Goals:

This activity will help children with the beginning skills of lacing. They can learn the concept of lacing by learning to go from the top when they start but come back from under to create a whisker.

Are you ready to learn?

What you need to do:

Step 1: Prepare the activity by printing the Cat PDF on card stock and cut out. You can choose to laminate it.
Step 2: Make 2-3 holes on either side of the nose
Step 3: You are ready to begin lacing. Hold the pipe cleaner like you are pinching it with your thumb and index finger.
Step 4: Start by putting one pipe cleaner from the top and then lace it back up the opposite facing hole from under.
Step 5: Repeat this till you get all 3 whiskers
Step 6: If you get good at this, try to complete this activity with yarn

Make holes for whiskers to be added with pipe cleaners or yarn
